HISTORY OF THE KENNELS

The kennels were built and opened in the early 1960's, when they comprised of one block of 25 kennels. At that time, these would have been situated in the countryside around the village of Hillcrest. During the mid to late 1970's, Gertie Modder (originally from Austria) but residing in Johannesburg bought the kennels and renamed them Jukskei Kennels. Gertie was an international dog judge and an established ‘Whippet' breeder. Then in 1985 the kennels were bought by Pat and Dave McCann, recent immigrants from the UK. Pat is also very well known in the dog fraternity, having bred a number of very successful Afghan Hounds. Three years after Dave's death, Kevin and Jo purchased the kennels, therefore becoming only the 4th owner in the 56 years of the kennels history.
